| SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM. Everyone gets spam, right? Well, no, not everyone. Spam is probably the most invasive and annoying part of the internet. There are plenty of ways to combat it, whether using BoxTrapper to require emailers to be white-listed before receiving the email or by suing the companies behind spam. Spam laws have been in place for years now and they have successfully put spammers in the US behind bars. One such example is Edward Davidson who for roughly 5 years have been littering the worlds inboxes with 'Penny Stock' spam. His story tells alot about his character, someone that ruthlessly made a profit by force-feeding our inboxes junk. This person thought only of himself, and in the end, he showed his true self-absorbed face. This spammer was so low that after being facing nearly a million dollars in fines decided to break out of jail to murder his wife and 3-year old daughter before killing himself. The people that spam have no regard for those who follow a righteous or principled path. It is then our duty to take steps against those that continue to ignore the laws in place which prohibit unsolicited bulk email. This area of our site is dedicated to reporting to the public know spammers. Unless your email address is sales@, info@, or something just as common, then you will not get spam if you do not send email. Because we can, we create individual email addresses for each outgoing contact. What this does is if a spam comes in, we can look only to the email address that received it to know exactly who is responsible for either sending the spam or selling our email address to a spammer. As we take spam very seriously here, we keep all spam received so that we can refer to it if needed for future legal action. We also do not send spam and monitor closely the sites that we host to ensure they are not spamming as well. If you received an email claiming to be from howdymedia.com, be sure to read the message source to find the real message sender. Spammers often use legitimate websites to spoof with and in effect spammers can appear to send mail from any domain, even whitehouse.gov. Tiger Direct - TigerDirect.com One such company that we caught spamming us was TigerDirect.com. We placed an order using a unique email address and within days after placing the order, spam began flooding in to an email address that never existed prior to the purchase from TigerDirect.com. As we have all spam collected previous to this purchase, we never had any email or spam come in for that specific address before. Clearly, TigerDirect.com had sold our email address to someone or they are involved in their own shadow company spamming operation. When confronted about what was found, the spam stopped coming in to that address. Clearly, TigerDirect.com is responsible for spamming as they can both start and stop the flow of spam to an email address that never existed prior to the purchase on their site. Zap Bang Done This company has uses Mailworkz to send out spam. We never had any contact with this company and have received 5 emails to date starting on 9/22/08. Partner2Profit This company was listed in an unsubscription link in a spam we received. Being smart, rather than unsubscribe with a real email address, we used a unique one that never was used before. By 'unsubscribing' from their spam list, it instead put this never before emailed email address on another spamming list. We have actively been receiving emails to this address since 'unsubscribing'. Elance Elance itself doesn't spam. Elance provides developers (such as HowdyMedia) to list their contact information voluntarily, and on our profile, we list an email address specific for incoming Elance requests. The problem lies in that the users of Elance are able see this email address in plain text format, and this opens the door for Indian developers to spam you with every website they create. Again, Elance isn't spamming, but they can help to prevent this by replacing the plain text email addresses with a generated image of the email address. As this is completely voluntary information, we have control to remove our email address from our contact area.
